Many Joomla users have questions on how to modify their templates. Customizing your templates is an important step in making your site look unique. The colors you use, the fonts, pictures - all these work together to convey an impression about your site.

However, for those who are finding it difficult to get templates taht they really like, or want to start producing templates they can give away (great link bait), a book by Tessa Blakely Silver is going to be just what the Joomla-doctor ordered.

Called Joomla! Template Design, it covers all aspects of designing a Joomla template, including:

  • setting up a basic workflow
  • debugging (very important!)
  • validating the template code (also important)
  • creating drop down menus
  • creating interactive and dynamic forms
  • using multiple templates in the same site
  • using animations and other design tricks

This is not a book for the absolute beginner, as you’ll need to know basic CSS, and HTML, and be able to use dreamweaver for the designs themselves (though I imagine you could use any editor).

When you’re ready to take your Joomla template skills to the next level, this is a good book to get.
